Azar (Artemisia abyssinica): Description and Features

Common Name: Azar

Spelling: A'in open, then Alif, Thaal broken, and Raa doubled

Scientific Name: Artemisia abyssinica

Description:

Azar is a perennial shrub characterized by its dark green color that persists throughout the year. This plant features lance-shaped, flat leaves that are about 10 cm long and can grow up to approximately 70 cm in height.

Despite its attractive appearance, Azar has an unpleasant odor, which deters livestock and helps it maintain its greenery year-round. It thrives in sandy soils, particularly in the Nafud (the desert sands).

Interestingly, Azar is also known to cause allergies in some individuals.
